The newspaper O ESTADO DE S. PAULO reports that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, announced on Monday, at a meeting of the Fiesp board, the extension of ICMS tax benefits that were due to expire at the end of this year. Despite the announcement, the governor has not yet detailed which sectors will be included or when the measure will be published. The incentives include exemptions and reductions in the tax base and are defended by Fiesp as instruments for competitiveness, legal certainty, and stimulating investment during the tax transition.

The decision marks a change from the beginning of his term, when Tarcísio signaled a broader cut and review of these benefits. Since then, the newspaper points out, the government has analyzed 266 incentives, eliminated 85 and reduced another 17, keeping most of them in effect.
